Since officially launching in 2011, LeoVegas has made a good name for itself as an online casino games hub. However, it wasn't until 2016 that the site expanded into sports betting on the back of a partnership with software maker the Kambi Group.
LeoVegas should leave a positive first impression on people who like to place sports bets. The betting interface looks slick and will make fans of the site's existing casino component feel quickly at home. However, is there substance to go with the nice looks?
Fortunately, despite arriving relatively late to the sports betting realm, LeoVegas still offers about as many exciting promotions for its sports bettors as it does for its casino players.
Well, that is, at least, what we found when visiting the site. The treats that we saw included free bets, extra winnings indicated as a percentage, and improved odds.
The rather stripped-down interface of the sports betting part of the LeoVegas site could lead you to mistakenly consider the range of sports featured here rather... limited. However, click 'Show all' on the panel below the 'Sports' button, and you may quickly perceive differently.
We counted more than 30 categories of sport in the full range featured by LeoVegas. So, what are the less surprising choices? They include:
However, LeoVegas still proves itself in touch with less conventional tastes in sport, as this web-based sports bookmaker also features:
You can also expect LeoVegas to occasionally revise this selection in response to what is 'in' in the world of sport. For example, as the 2018 Winter Olympics began, we saw that LeoVegas had decided to dedicate a whole section of its site to the Games.
Fancy some live betting? LeoVegas certainly has that covered - albeit, at least for now, in a rather limited way. Click 'Live now', and you can get links to text feeds showing unfolding matches; we were pleased by the range of sports presented here.
The range was better than what we had seen on rival sites, the live offerings of which seemed to lean a little too heavily towards football and tennis. However, you are out of luck if you want to see matches streamed live on LeoVegas; we couldn't see that option anywhere.
That omission might simply reflect the relative newness of LeoVegas's sports betting operations more than anything else. You can still place bets - both live and non-live - through the LeoVegas sports betting app, which offers 'live visualisation' with eight sports.
In January 2016, LeoVegas struck a deal with Kambi; LeoVegas has since tweaked Kambi's software to integrate it seamlessly with the site's punchy look. If you have used other sites that feature Kambi software, you will therefore generally know what to expect.
Nonetheless, even if you are thoroughly experienced in using such sites, which also include the likes of 888sport and Unibet, you could still be struck by how effectively LeoVegas has wrapped Kambi software in what could be deemed a mobile-friendly wrapper.
This is clear in the way the interface is broken into two sections: the odds section and toolbar. It's the kind of design that you may be more used to seeing on your smartphone display, but it works well here to make LeoVegas easy to digest for sports betting novices.
LeoVegas offers various mobile apps for its casino players - and given that the site's sportsbook is still relatively new, it's impressive that LeoVegas already offers a dedicated sports betting app. It's not only free to download, but also solidly rated by its users.
Whether you download the app for iOS or Android and in a smartphone-ready or tablet-optimised version, you can enjoy a range of betting markets. The iPhone version also has the neat touch of supporting the Touch ID system, allowing you to log in with little delay or friction by putting a finger on the device's built-in fingerprint sensor.
Repeatedly playing at LeoVegas can take you through successive VIP levels as you wager ever-larger amounts of real money. The VIP levels are numbered 1 to 99.
However, judging from users' reports, you probably shouldn't expect LeoVegas to exactly shower you with bonuses, even if you progress through dozens of the VIP levels. By fleshing out its VIP scheme, LeoVegas could more effectively compete with other sites in this area.
LeoVegas has a history mainly as a casino portal - and this is reflected in the large number and variety of casino games available through the site. These include games, such as Starburst and Gonzo's Quest, that you may have seen on other sites.
However, there are also some games advertised as exclusive to LeoVegas; these include Witchcraft Academy and Northern Sky. There is also a 'Live Casino' section featuring both exclusive and non-exclusive titles, each of which has a live video feed of a human dealer.

Getting help on the LeoVegas site can be straightforward, not least due to the prominently-displayed 'Support' link in the top-left corner of the site's interface. Clicking that link will take you to a pretty detailed FAQ covering such aspects as deposits, withdrawals and bonuses.
A whole portion of the FAQs is even dedicated to the sportsbook - and clarifies various parts of sports betting that could otherwise confuse novices. Scroll down on the FAQs' entry page, and you will see phone and email contact details for the customer support team.
This customer support is available 24/7. However, whereas sending the team an email - such as through the provided online contact form - will normally see a response within 24 hours, you can get faster replies by using the also-provided Live Chat function.
There are various territories from which LeoVegas does not welcome players. Those territories include:
French Southern and Antarctic Lands
United States Minor Outlying Islands
United States Miscellaneous Pacific Islands
United States Virgin Islands
LeoVegas has gained the required legal permission to provide sports betting services to UK customers, as the site's operator, LeoVegas Gaming Ltd., has been handed a betting licence by the Gambling Commission.
The encouraging start that LeoVegas has made in the area of sports betting indicates this is definitely a site to watch for the future. Even right now, you can benefit from a decent variety of sports and an attractive mobile app dedicated to sports betting.
